Dr. Hunter will be returning to Stafford Middle School for the Spartans’ annual career day event on Friday, January 18th. Joining her to augment her presentation about careers in veterinary medicine will be Katydid, a kid-loving and keen, canine assistant. Katy serves to provide a 3-D perspective of how small animal veterinarians do what they do and logistically why tests are performed in a specific manner through demonstrations of the standard “nose to tail to toes” examination. With Katy’s willing aid, Dr. Hunter’s power point presentation images are brought to life thereby enhancing students’ comprehension of day to day and unusual case experiences.
In addition to learning about prospective careers in the veterinary medical field, audience members will have the opportunity to learn more about animal bite prevention in a safely structured, non-threatening and positive learning environment. Katy is just what the doctor ordered when children fearful of dogs, either due to past bad experiences or simple unfamiliarity with the species, are afforded the opportunity, if they wish, to pet her or to give her treats.
LazyPaw Animal Hospitals is devoted to providing service to the community. This relationship is not limited to the care of dogs and cats. Free outreach programs such as career days, are a way to give back and make our annual school visits that much more fun and meaningful.
If you, your school or social group would like to schedule a free, educational presentation, please contact Dr. Hunter at hunter@lazypawvet.com.
